Step 2 of 8
Get the file out of your billing system
Where to find the right report in SimplePractice, Kipu and Opus, and how to check it before you upload.
Every billing system can export a claims report to CSV or Excel. The hard part is picking the right report. You want one row per claim, with the billed amount, a date, the payer, the claim status and the denial reason code. Start here has the full list.
SimplePractice
Go to Analytics, then the Reports tab.
Open Filed claims, under the insurance reports.
It lists every claim filed electronically through SimplePractice. Set the date range. You can also filter by clinician and claim status.
Export it.
If the page shows Export, click it and choose CSV or Excel, and stay on the page until the file downloads. If it shows Manage report, click it, then Download CSV or Download XLSX.
If you export from Analytics then Report exports instead, the file waits under Available reports. Download it before noon the next business day, when it expires.
Filed claims only covers claims sent through SimplePractice itself. SimplePractice keeps the payer’s denial reason on each claim’s Payment Report (ERA), so open your export and check for a reason code column before you upload. If it is not there, email info@yeam.ai and we will find the right report with you.
Kipu
If your facility uses Kipu’s integrated billing, claims are worked in CollaborateMD, the billing system connected to Kipu, not in the clinical EMR. If another company or system does your billing, export from there instead.
In CollaborateMD, go to Reports, then Viewer.
Search for Denials Report and click it.
Set the date range and click Run Report.
Click Print/Export and choose CSV.
If you choose Excel, leave Include report headers unchecked, so the first row of the file holds the column names.
The Denials Report lists the denial code and description, claim ID, CPT code, charge amount, charge dates and payer for each denial. It also carries the patient’s name and ID, which Yeam refuses when you upload.
It is a denials report, so it fills your worklist but gives no denial rate. For paid claims too, the Revenue Cycle dashboard in Kipu BI has a Consolidated Table tab. Click the three dots at its top right, then Export to CSV.
Opus
Opus does not publish its report steps where we can check them, so we are writing the exact clicks with an Opus biller and will add them here. Until then, ask your Opus admin for a claims or claim aging report with the columns listed on Start here, saved as CSV or Excel.
Check the file before you upload
Open it in Excel or Google Sheets.
The first row holds the column names.
Delete any report title, date range or logo rows above it.
There is a reason code column.
It holds codes like
CO-16,CO-50orPR-1. Without it, denials cannot go on the worklist.Amounts look like amounts, and dates look like dates.
One date per cell. A range like 01/05/2026 to 01/09/2026 cannot be read as a date.
Save it as .csv or .xlsx.
Leave everything else as it is. Yeam skips the patient columns for you.
